Eating Disorder Therapy

Watching a friend or loved one struggle with an eating disorder can be extremely painful. And if you're suffering from an eating disorder yourself, you're no doubt feeling the physical and emotional pain. But you don't have to struggle with your eating disorder alone. I offer eating disorder treatment to those in need.
Take Control
Eating disorders are often about control, or a lack thereof. Often, people alter their eating habits to compensate for other problems or shortcomings in their lives. I want to help you work through your issues in a gentle, non-threatening environment. One of the most painful aspects of an eating disorder is the continual focus on your size, weight, and food. Self-punishing thoughts can make you feel disconnected from yourself. My eating disorder treatment is designed to help you heal so that you can regain your physical and mental strength.
As a psychologist, I will help you to find more effective eating and exercise styles, to express your emotions, to examine your thought patterns, and to improve your interpersonal relationships. Uncovering family-of-origin issues and experiences of abuse and trauma as they relate to your body image and eating problems may be part of your therapy. I use a multidisciplinary approach, referring to physicians, psychiatrists, dieticians, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) groups, and more intensive treatment programs as needed. I provide individual, family and couples therapy, as well as EMDR when appropriate. (See section on EMDR).
I use a feminist, non-diet philosophy and integrative treatment borrowing from Interpersonal, Cognitive-Behavioral (CBT), Self Psychology, and Gestalt therapies. Guided imagery, journaling, and mindfulness are usually included in your treatment.
Don't suffer with an eating disorder when I may be able to help. Call today to set up an appointment and learn more about my eating disorder treatment.
